The rewards of rootling, and a whirlwind video tour of the plot

I like the word "rootle" a lot. It conjures an image of pigs or boar, searching for insects or acorns in shady woodland. Or of me, once a year, checking whether the potato plants are doing the business. The latter of these things happened on our allotment yesterday. I'd normally wait at least until the flowers show on our first early varieties to have a ferret around under the foliage, but, partly in the interest of getting to eat some spuds while they are still really waxy (last years were almost all floury, and useless for boiling) I had a look yesterday.

One plant's worth
One plant produced enough spuddage for my dinner, with plenty left to eat cold with butter and salt. Is there anything better?

Potatoes, asparagus, chard, hollandaise

Fancy a look round the rest of the plot to see what's going on? You do??!! Alright, let's do it! (ps link is here, in case embedded video doesn't work for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaOUO0DSfSg)

    1. Thanks Anne. Nice to dig up potatoes rather than the hypodermic needles and pigeon carcasses we were harvesting this time last year. Your plot looks grand too btw!

  2. Everything is coming on well. No wonder you have a cold in this germ friendly weather. The video gave a good insight of you plot and I am with Kasia when it comes to being filmed.

    1. Ha! I shouldn't even mention it when I'm not putting my own ugly moosh in front of the lense.

  3. I took a 3 minute video of my vegetables but I don't know how to put it on my blog. I tried to. I took it on my mobile.

  5. Hi Lee - enjoyed the tour and hope your cold has gone. There's a lot of rubble and crap in the allotment, get it cleared out man. Your mum took photos of our patch and left with beetroot, pak choi, kale (which they pilfered), broad beans, spinach and a cor! Jet.

All comments gratefully received. Sorry about the word verification thing, but I've started getting bombed by spam.
